Per-client placeholders in plans
Leave a blank in a nutrition label once, then fill it in per client at the moment you assign the plan, instead of editing day by day.
Most of a nutrition plan is the same for everyone: the meals, the foods, the structure. A few details aren’t, such as the time a client eats breakfast, a personal note, a specific amount. Placeholders let you leave those as a blank in the template and fill them in once, per client, the moment you assign the plan, instead of editing every day by hand.
Read the next section before you build any: the values are set when you assign, and only then.
Adding a placeholder
Open a nutrition template in the Vault. On a meal label (a heading like “Breakfast”) or on a
recipe name, the row’s action icons include an Insert field button (the { } icon). Click
it to either:
- Reuse a field you’ve already used in this template, or
- Add a new field by giving it a plain-language name, e.g.
Breakfast time.
The field drops into the label as a chip, so you never type code or curly braces:
Breakfast [ Breakfast time ] { } add-note copy delete
└ Insert field
Reuse the same field across every day. If each day’s breakfast label uses the same
Breakfast time field, you’ll only be asked for it once and the value fills all of them.
Filling it in when you assign
Placeholders are filled at the moment you give the plan to a client. Both routes prompt you:
- From the Vault. Open the plan and use Assign in the top bar, or Assign to a client on the plan’s card menu. The dialog lists each placeholder under the dates. See Assigning a plan to a client.
- From a client’s record. On the Plans & programs card, use the Template pill, pick the template, and the second step lists the placeholders alongside the plan’s name and dates.
Fill them in and assign. The client gets their own copy, and your values are shown everywhere the field appeared. Any field you leave blank simply doesn’t show in the client’s app.
Assign the same plan to another client and you’ll be asked again, so each client gets their own values.
Values are set at assignment, so set them there
This is the one thing to plan around. There is no screen for changing a placeholder value after the plan is assigned. The fields are still in the plan’s wording, and the values are still stored against the plan, but nothing in the dashboard lists them for editing.
What that means in practice:
- Fill every field you care about in the assign dialog. A blank left blank stays blank.
- If a value turns out wrong, the honest fix is to edit the text on that client’s own copy of the plan, the same way you’d fix any other wording, or to assign a fresh copy with the right values and expire the old one.
- Keep the field count small. Two or three fields per plan are easy to fill correctly on the way in; a dozen are not.
Good to know
- The fields are never overwritten. Templates keep their placeholders. A client’s plan keeps the fields too, and your values are stored alongside the plan and shown in their place, so the plan’s wording is preserved and stays editable.
- Added or imported content fills itself in. If you later drop a meal or recipe into the plan and it uses a field the plan already has a value for, it resolves automatically. If it brings a new field, that field has no value and will not show.
- In the Template flow, copy rather than link. That dialog has a Link to template toggle. A linked plan keeps its content shared with the template, so it can’t take per-client values. Leave the toggle off (the default) so the plan is copied and the placeholders are filled.
- Reuse field names exactly. Two labels with the same field name share one value; differently named fields are asked for separately.
