Products

Everything you sell, from coaching packages and session packs to bundles and digital downloads: product types, how a client pays, pricing and tax, access duration, and linking plans.

A product is anything you sell: a coaching package, a block of sessions, a downloadable guide, a bundle of several offerings. Products live in Shop → Products, and a product is the template a purchase is created from. Change a product and future purchases pick up the change; existing purchases keep the terms they were sold on.

Product types

You pick the type when you create the product, and it cannot be changed afterwards, because purchases already made from it depend on what it means.

Type What it is What it adds
Service Coaching, consulting, any service-based offering Nothing extra: the general-purpose choice
Session Pack A number of sessions a client works through over time Session credit tracking on every purchase
Bundle Several products sold as one offering A list of included products
Digital Product A download or online resource Fulfillment instructions shown after purchase
Physical Product Something you ship Fulfillment instructions shown after purchase

A bundle cannot contain another bundle. Pick the products it includes and the client gets all of them from the one purchase.

How the client pays

The fulfillment method decides where the money is handled, and like the type it is fixed once the product exists.

STRIPE CHECKOUT
Client pays by card
Stripe collects, purchase and invoice are created for you
MOBILE IN-APP PURCHASE
Client buys in your app
Apple or Google collects; needs a store product id
EXTERNAL PAYMENT
You get paid elsewhere
Bank transfer, cash, another platform. You record the purchase
FREE
No payment
Granting access to a plan, a lead magnet, a comped client
The four fulfillment methods. Only Stripe Checkout collects money inside Protocol; the others record what happened elsewhere.

External payment is the one to reach for when a client pays you by transfer or in cash. You create the purchase yourself and the shop tracks it exactly like a card payment, which is also how installment plans are usually sold.

The essential fields. Type and fulfillment method are locked after you save, so get those two right; everything else stays editable.

Active or inactive controls whether the product can be sold. Making a product inactive hides it from new purchases and leaves every existing purchase untouched, which is the safe way to retire an offering.

Pricing and tax

  • Price and currency, entered as an amount a client would recognize.
  • Pricing type: a one-time charge, or a subscription that repeats. Subscriptions add a billing interval and count, for example every 1 month. See Subscriptions & renewals.
  • Tax rate: leave it on the default from Shop settings, or pick a specific rate for this product.

A one-time product can also be sold as an installment plan, which splits the same total into several dated payments without changing the product.

Access duration

Turn on time-limited access and set a duration in days, months, or years. When somebody buys, the purchase gets an expiry date calculated from the purchase date, and access to whatever the product grants ends there. Leave it off and access does not expire on its own.

For subscriptions, the current billing period governs access rather than a fixed duration.

Linking plans

Plans are the training or nutrition programs a client receives when they buy. Attach them to the product and every purchase made from it grants them automatically, so you are not assigning programs by hand after each sale.

Plans are copied to the client at purchase time. Editing the program afterwards does not rewrite what an existing client already received.

Session packs

A session-pack product carries a number of sessions. Every purchase then tracks:

  • Total, what they bought.
  • Consumed, what has been used.
  • Remaining, what is left.

Sessions come off the balance as you record them, and a session recorded by mistake can be restored. See Purchases & invoices.

Extra details worth filling in

  • Rich description and fulfillment instructions: the instructions are what a client sees after buying, which is where a download link or a next step belongs.
  • External platform URL: a link out to Gumroad, Teachable, or wherever the product actually lives.
  • Tags, featured, and sort order: how the product is filed and ordered in your shop.
  • External ID: the identifier this product carries in another system, for imports and reconciliation.
  • Mobile in-app purchase IDs: the App Store and Google Play product identifiers, required for the Mobile IAP fulfillment method to work.

Deleting a product

Deleting is for products that were never really used. If a product has purchases behind it, make it inactive instead: the sales history stays intact and nothing new can be sold.
