Subscriptions & renewals

Set up recurring billing so clients are charged automatically: billing cycles, renewal timing, and what clients see.

A subscription charges a client automatically on a repeating schedule: monthly coaching, a recurring program fee, or any ongoing service. This guide covers how to set one up and how renewals are timed.

Create a subscription product

In Shop → Products, create a product, set its pricing type to subscription, and choose:

  • Billing interval and count, how often the client is charged, for example every 1 month.
  • Price, the amount charged each cycle.

Once the product is active, it can be sold from your storefront or recorded against a client as a purchase.

How renewals are timed

Each subscription has an anchor date, the day of the cycle on which it renews. Renewals run automatically: the client is charged for the next cycle, the subscription’s expiry moves forward by one cycle, and a new invoice is generated.

  • A monthly subscription that starts on the 12th renews on the 12th of each following month.
  • Renewals are processed on the renewal date and extend access from the previous expiry, so a client is never double-charged for overlapping time.
  • A renewal can also be triggered by hand from the purchase, which is the override when something needs correcting.

What the client sees

In their mobile app, the client sees the subscription, its next renewal date, and their invoices. They keep access to whatever the product grants for as long as the subscription stays active.

Cancellation & re-subscribing

When a subscription is cancelled it stops renewing; the client keeps access until the current paid period expires. If a former subscriber buys again, they start a fresh subscription.

Invoices

Every charge, the first payment and each renewal alike, produces an invoice on the purchase. Open the purchase from Shop → Purchases to review the full billing history. See Purchases & invoices.
